What New York requires on your label
The label maker below handles all of this for you. Here is the checklist it follows, straight from New York's rules.
- 1Product common namee.g. "Apple Fritters".
- 2Producer name and addressYour name (or business name) and the home processor address.
- 3Net weight or volumeIn US (oz/lb) and metric (g) units.
- 4Ingredient listAll ingredients in descending order by weight, including sub-ingredients in parentheses.
- 5Allergen statementAll nine major allergens clearly identified (milk, egg, peanuts, tree nuts, fish, shellfish, soy, wheat, sesame).
- 6Recommended: home-kitchen phraseNew York requires no disclaimer, but Ag & Markets recommends a phrase like "Made in a Home Kitchen" in 1/16-inch or larger lettering.
- No disclaimer is legally required in New York. The "Made in a Home Kitchen" phrase is recommended by NYS Ag & Markets, not mandatory.
- NYS Ag & Markets reviews sample labels as part of Home Processor registration, so match their guidance before printing.
- If a label includes a nutrition claim or you ship out of state (which is not allowed under this exemption), federal nutrition facts rules kick in.
- Display your Home Processor registration certificate at any in-person sales location.
