What Indiana requires on your label

    The home address is mandatory; no permit-number substitute exists.

    Common or usual name of the product
    e.g. "Persimmon Pudding".

    Ingredients in descending order of predominance by weight
    Include sub-ingredients of compound ingredients.

    Net weight or volume
    By standard measure or numerical count.

    Date the product was processed
    The processing date.
  6. 6
    Required statement in at least 10-point type
    Exact wording below, including NOT FOR RESALE. The 10-point rule applies to this statement.
Required wording, added to your label automatically
This product is home produced and processed and the production area has not been inspected by the Indiana Department of Health. NOT FOR RESALE.
  • A sign substitutes for a label on unpackaged food, and the label must also be posted on the vendor's website.
  • An allergen statement is IDOH/Purdue-recommended best practice, not a statutory element.
  • HB 1562 (2025) died in the Senate, so the current wording (P.L.56-2023, "Indiana Department of Health") remains in force.
