What Illinois requires on your label

The label maker below handles all of this for you. Here is the checklist it follows, straight from Illinois's rules.

    Name of the cottage food operation and its unit of local government
    Your operation name plus the municipality or county where it is located. Your home street address is NOT required on the label.

    Registration number and where registered
    Your registration number plus the municipality or county where the registration was filed.

    Common or usual name of the product
    e.g. "Snickerdoodles".
  4. 4
    All ingredients in descending order by weight
    Including colors, artificial flavors, and preservatives.

    Date the product was processed
    The processing date.
  6. 6
    Allergen labeling
    As specified under federal labeling requirements.
  7. 7
    Required disclaimer in prominent lettering
    The full two-sentence statement below on the label; a shorter one-sentence version goes on the point-of-sale placard or online checkout.
Required wording, added to your label automatically
This product was produced in a home kitchen not inspected by a health department that may also process common food allergens. If you have safety concerns, contact your local health department.
  • At physical displays a placard, and on online sales interfaces a notice, must state: "This product was produced in a home kitchen not inspected by a health department that may also process common food allergens."
  • Products must be pre-packaged unless the local health department grants an exception with other prominent written notice.
  • Net weight is not an enumerated cottage food element; including it is safe practice under the Illinois Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act.
