What Utah requires on your label

The label maker below handles all of this for you. Here is the checklist it follows, straight from Utah's rules.

   Registered cottage food path: "Home Produced" in bold 12-point type

   On the principal display panel (Utah Admin Code R70-560-6). No inspection-disclaimer sentence is required on this path.

   Product name

   e.g. "Honey Wheat Bread".

   Producer name and full address

   Place of business; no registration number substitute on either path.

   Producer telephone number

   Required by R70-560-6.

   Ingredients in descending order of predominance by weight

   Include sub-ingredients of compound ingredients.

   Major allergen declaration

   Milk, eggs, fish, shellfish, tree nuts, peanuts, wheat, soybeans, and sesame.

   Net quantity of contents

   Weight, measure, or count.

   Nutrition labeling unless exempt

   Small producers usually qualify for the exemption; confirm yours.

   HCHFA (homemade food) path instead: two statements

   "NOT FOR RESALE" and "PROCESSED AND PREPARED WITHOUT STATE OR LOCAL INSPECTION", plus allergen disclosure.

• Utah has two paths with different label rules: registered cottage food (bold 12-point "Home Produced" on the front panel) and the Home Consumption and Homemade Food Act ("NOT FOR RESALE" plus the without-inspection statement).
• The label maker prints the registered-path marking; if you sell under HCHFA instead, swap in the two HCHFA statements.
