What North Carolina requires on your label

The label maker below handles all of this for you. Here is the checklist it follows, straight from North Carolina's rules.

   Manufacturer name and physical address

   Your business name (or legal name) and the address where the food is produced.

   Product name

   For example, "Lemon Pound Cake" or "Strawberry Jam".

   Ingredients in descending order by weight

   Include sub-ingredients of compound ingredients.

   Net contents

   By net weight, volume, or count, in US customary units.

   Allergen declaration

   Identify the major allergens (the Top 9): milk, egg, fish, shellfish, tree nuts, peanuts, wheat, soybeans, and sesame. Tree nuts and seafood by species name.

• North Carolina requires NO home-produced disclaimer. Labels follow standard FDA-style rules: product name, business name and address, ingredients, net weight with gram equivalent, and allergens.
• Custom-made or made-to-order foods sold direct from home or at events may be exempt from individual product labels, but ingredient information must still be available on request.
• Packaged products sold for self-service at markets or in retail stores must carry full labels.
• Nutrition facts are only needed if you make a claim like "low fat" or "sugar free".
