What Wisconsin requires on your label

The label maker below handles all of this for you. Here is the checklist it follows, straight from Wisconsin's rules.

   Home-baked goods: no label legally required

   Under the court injunction no label or disclaimer is mandated for baked goods; the elements below are strongly recommended best practice.

   Canned goods (pickle bill): name and address

   Of the person who prepared and canned the product.

   Canned goods: date canned

   The canning date must be on the label.

   Canned goods: ingredients with allergen common names

   In descending order of prominence, naming the major allergens (Wisconsin's statute lists 8 allergens; sesame is not included).

   Canned goods: required statement

   The exact statement below on every container (Wis. Stat. 97.29).

   Canned goods: point-of-sale sign

   A sign at the place of sale stating: "These canned goods are homemade and not subject to state inspection."

• For baked goods, using the canned-goods statement and full labeling anyway is the recommended practice and what this label maker produces.
• The December 2022 expansion to all non-potentially-hazardous foods was reversed on appeal (November 19, 2024): only baked goods and pickle-bill canned goods are covered.
• No font size is mandated.
