What Minnesota requires on your label

The label maker below handles all of this for you. Here is the checklist it follows, straight from Minnesota's rules.

   Name of the person preparing and selling the food

   Your legal name or business name.

   Registration number OR address

   Minnesota explicitly allows your MDA cottage food registration number in place of your home address.

   Date the food was prepared

   The preparation or processing date.

   Ingredients and any possible allergens

   List ingredients and call out possible allergens.

   Required statement

   Exact wording below; it must also appear on a sign at the point of sale and on any website offering the foods.

   Best practice: product name and net weight

   MDA says neither is required; both are good practice.

• The same statement must appear on the label, on a clearly legible sign or placard at the point of sale, and on your website if you sell online.
• No font size is specified in Minn. Stat. 28A.152.
• Changes effective August 1, 2027: in-state mail shipping, a single registration tier with a $30 annual fee, and advanced training for all registrants.
