What South Carolina requires on your label

The label maker below handles all of this for you. Here is the checklist it follows, straight from South Carolina's rules.

   Name and address of the operation, OR a department-issued ID number

   On request, the department issues an identification number you may print instead of your home address (S.C. Code 44-1-143).

   Name of the product

   e.g. "Benne Wafers".

   Ingredients in descending order of predominance by weight

   Include sub-ingredients of compound ingredients.

   Required all-caps statement

   Exact wording below, in capital letters and a color contrasting with the background. Note: no "NOT FOR RESALE" prefix; that was dropped in 2022 and retail resale is now allowed.

   Best practice: allergens and net weight

   Not in the statute's enumerated list, but they flow from the label's general duty to comply with federal rules and protect your customers.

• SCDA administers under the modern statute (44-1-143): all-caps statement, no NOT FOR RESALE prefix, ID-number option, retail sales allowed.
• Operations with net earnings under $1,500 a year are exempt from the section's requirements.
• No font size is mandated; contrast with the background is required.
